The conerstone for the four piece group Athena are the brothers Gökhan and Hakan Özoguz who's initial introduction to music was through heavy metal played on homemade instruments in their early teenage years. The brothers were later joined by a series of drummers and bass guitarists and produced a series of demos in the trash metal style of popular groups like Slayer and Megadeath. In 1990, the foursome, by now called Athena started doing live gigs and within two years they were playing support to foreign bands visiting Turkey.
